Frequently Asked Questions for Family Dentistry
At what age should my child get sealants?
The ideal time is shortly after a child's permanent molars erupt — around age 6 for the first permanent molars and age 12 for the second molars. Sealing molars at this age, before any cavity has a chance to form, dramatically reduces a kid's lifetime cavity risk. Adults who never had sealants as kids can still benefit if their molars have deep grooves that catch food.
What ages do you treat at KA Dental?
We see patients of every age, from a child's first visit around age 1 (when the first teeth appear) through grandparents and beyond. Our team is comfortable with the full lifecycle of dental care: pediatric exams and sealants, teen orthodontics, adult cleanings and cosmetic work, restorative care for older adults, and senior-specific concerns like dry mouth, root caries, and denture fit. One office, one chart, every age — with Dr. Mustafa Alameri who's particularly focused on multigenerational family care.
Can my whole family be seen on the same day?
Yes — we schedule families together whenever possible. Many of our patients book back-to-back appointments for parents and kids on the same morning, which saves a trip and lets younger children see that the dentist isn't scary. Just tell our scheduling team how many family members you'd like seen and approximately what each needs (cleanings, exams, specific concerns) when you call — we'll find a window that works.
When should my child first visit the dentist?
The American Dental Association recommends a child's first dental visit by their first birthday or within 6 months of the first tooth appearing, whichever comes first. The first visit is mostly about getting your child comfortable in the dental chair, checking the development of teeth and jaw, and giving you guidance on cleaning, fluoride, and habits like thumb-sucking. Early visits prevent problems from becoming expensive ones later.
Do you offer preventive services for children?
Yes. Our pediatric services include routine cleanings, fluoride treatments, dental sealants (a clear protective coating on molars), digital X-rays with kid-sized doses, oral cancer screenings as kids age into teens, mouthguards for sports, and orthodontic screenings. We also screen for early signs of bite issues, thumb-sucking damage, and tongue-tie. We work closely with parents to build healthy oral habits early.
What makes KA Dental different from other family dental practices?
Three things, honestly. Range: we handle everything from a 2-year-old's first cleaning to a senior's full-arch implant restoration in the same office — no being sent to outside specialists for routine work. In-house lab: crowns, bridges, dentures, and implant restorations get fabricated faster than at most family practices, often in days rather than weeks. Doctor depth: with seven dentists across Dr. Krunal Patel, Dr. Aditi Patel, Dr. Amri, Dr. Singh, Dr. Hosh, Dr. Harrison, and Dr. Alameri, your family has access to specialty-level expertise without the specialty referral.
Can you make mouthguards for children?
Yes — we make custom mouthguards for kids as young as 5-6 (when they have enough adult teeth to anchor a guard). For young athletes whose mouths are still growing, we recommend checking the fit every 6-12 months. We can also make orthodontic mouthguards that work over braces. Most school sports leagues require mouthguards by middle school, and getting kids used to wearing them young pays off long-term.
