Misaligned Bite
Overbite (malocclusion) occurs when the upper jaw over extends in front of the lower jaw 30-50% when you bite down.
Underbite occurs when the lower overlaps the upper jaw. This is also called a Class III malocclusion or prognathism. Braces are the most common way to correct an underbite. Significant underbites may require surgery to correct.. Braces can help realign your jaw over a period of years as our orthodontist tightens wires in the braces to gradually move the teeth and jaw into alignment.
Correcting an overbite is not only a cosmetic benefit but an uncorrected overbite may lead to gum damage, difficulty keeping teeth clean, jaw pain, tooth wear, speech impediments, and even difficulty sleeping. An examination by our doctors will determine the best treatment for this condition and if braces are the proper course of treatment.
