Tooth Extraction Specialist at KA Dental
Tooth extraction is a procedure used to safely remove a non-restorable, diseased, or damaged tooth, often done to alleviate pain and prevent infection from spreading. By removing the problematic tooth, extraction serves as a necessary step to restore long-term oral health and prepare the mouth for subsequent restorative treatments like implants or bridges. Teeth Extractions for Pain, Braces and More
Tooth extraction may be necessary if a natural tooth is badly decayed or damaged. But also to facilitate other procedures.
Wisdom Teeth Extractions
While Dr. Krunal Patel and Dr. Aditi Patel will do everything they can to help protect your complete, natural smile, there may be cases where extracting one or more teeth is necessary for preserving your oral health. This situation is most common with wisdom teeth, which often do not have enough room within the mouth to erupt properly due to their late entry. Here at KA Dental, our dedicated team can perform both simple and surgical extractions, working hard to ensure that you are as comfortable as possible every step of the way.
Simple Tooth Extraction
If the affected wisdom tooth is clearly visible in the mouth and has not broken off, a simple extraction should be sufficient to remove it in most cases. This procedure only requires a local anesthetic, and one of our doctors will simply grip the tooth and loosen it with forceps before pulling it free. A dental elevator that is inserted between the teeth and gums may also be needed in order to assist the loosening of the tooth.
Patients who undergo a simple extraction should avoid eating solid foods or any kind of chewing on the affected side of the mouth for several hours after their procedure. Rinse the mouth with saltwater and use warm compresses on the jaw. Also, be sure to take any prescribed pain medication. A little bleeding is normal and should not be cause for concern.
Surgical Tooth Extraction
If, the tooth, is not visible, has suffered severe breakage, or has simply not emerged yet, we will need to perform a surgical extraction. This will involve one of our doctors cutting and pulling back the gums in order to access the tooth, as well as possibly cutting it into multiple pieces. We will provide detailed instructions on how to care for your mouth after your extraction is completed. This will involve changing gauze pads often, keeping the mouth clean by rinsing with saltwater, and making sure to relax and keep your head elevated so as to reduce bleeding.
