Simple Tooth Extraction
If, the affected wisdom tooth is clearly visible in the mouth and has not broken off, a simple extraction should be sufficient to remove it in most cases.
This procedure only requires local anesthetic, and one of our doctors will simply grip the tooth and loosen it with forceps before pulling it free. A dental elevator that is inserted between the teeth and gums may also be needed in order to assist the loosening of the tooth.
Patients who undergo a simple extraction should avoid eating solid foods or any kind of chewing on the affected side of the mouth for several hours after their procedure. Rinse the mouth with salt water and use warm compresses on the jaw. Also, be sure to take any prescribed pain medication. A little bleeding is normal and should not be cause for concern.
